Industrial desks in solid oak & hand-welded steel.

Every industrial desk we make is drawn to your exact dimensions in our Derby workshop. Solid American white oak tops, hand-welded mild-steel chassis, made to order and delivered fully assembled across the United Kingdom. Single desks, corner desks, dining tables and multi-seat workstations — all built the same way, by hand, with a four to six week lead time.

Industrial desk in solid oak with welded charcoal steel frame

What makes a desk industrial?

An industrial desk is defined by what's honest in the construction — visible welds, square steel sections, solid timber tops without veneer, and joinery you can actually see. The look comes from machine-shop and warehouse furniture of the early twentieth century: heavy, rectilinear, functional, made to last decades of daily use rather than a single fashion cycle.

Our industrial desks pair solid American white oak tops, 30 to 50 mm thick, with hand-welded mild-steel bases finished in our standard charcoal lacquer or any RAL colour. Every desk is built one at a time, here in Derby, with a Russell Oak & Steel brass identification plate riveted to the apron — every piece is signed and numbered, and the workshop is happy to put your name and a build date on it as well.

This page is an index of every desk we make. If you're looking for a home office desk, a corner desk for a study, a dining table built like a workbench, or a multi-person workstation for a team room, you'll find it in the sections below — each linking through to full specifications, pricing and the configurator where applicable.

How our industrial desks are built.

The construction is consistent across the range. Each desk begins with a steel chassis cut from cold-rolled British box section — typically 50 × 50 mm or 60 × 60 mm depending on the desk's span. Joints are mitred, MIG welded, ground flush and finished by hand. There are no exposed bolts, no flat-pack hardware and no glue holding anything structural together.

Ask our team about the materials, finish and care requirements for your chosen piece. Please contact us for advice about maintenance or a repair.

— Single Desks

Single-user desks & corner desks.

For studies, home offices, snug rooms and architect studios. Every model below is drawn to your room — width and depth specified to the millimetre, finishes specified from the configurator.

Choosing the right industrial desk.

Home office or study desks

For a single-user home office, the Remington Desk is the most popular starting point — a 1500 mm wide top, 700 mm deep, with a single drawer. It pairs cleanly with the Remington Filing Cabinet if you need lockable storage on castors. For a study with a wall corner, the Remington Corner Desk wraps an L into the room and lets you keep two screens and reference material side-by-side.

Architect, designer and creative studios

The X Frame Desk was drawn for an architect's studio in Glasgow in 2018. The diagonal bracing locks the table into rigidity along its long axis — useful when you're leaning over plans or using a large drawing board. The same chassis stretches into the X Frame Dining Table and the X Frame Corner Desk for studios that double as meeting rooms.

Co-working, team rooms and shared offices

For multiple users, our workstation range consolidates two, three, four, five or six desks into a single welded run with a shared steel apron, cable management beneath, and optional steel-mesh privacy panels between users. Fourteen layouts are catalogued — see the workstations section below.

Sizes and customisation

Every desk is built to order. Standard widths run from 1200 mm up to 2200 mm in 100 mm increments; standard depth is 700 mm. Corner desks are configured by overall span (e.g. 5ft × 4ft, 7ft × 7ft). For dimensions outside the standard range, including unusually wide or extra-deep tops, please get in touch — we routinely build to bespoke specifications.

Why made-to-order matters.

We don't keep finished stock. Each industrial desk is drawn, cut, welded and finished only after it's ordered, which means the workshop never produces something nobody wants. It also means every desk you buy from us was built specifically for your room — your exact width, your exact depth, your choice of oak colour, your choice of steel finish.

The four to six week lead time is the consequence of this. It's slower than retail furniture, faster than most bespoke joiners, and matches the time it takes to do everything in solid timber and welded steel rather than MDF and screw-together fasteners. The desk that arrives is the desk you specified, finished by hand, signed and numbered.

Delivery, assembly and aftercare.

Industrial desks ship across the United Kingdom on our own vehicles, by two members of the workshop team. We deliver fully assembled — no flat-pack, no instructions, no Allen keys. The team carries the desk into your room, levels it, checks it and signs it off with you.

Please contact our team for product-specific information about materials, care and aftercare. Your statutory rights are unaffected.

— Multi-User Industrial Workstations

Two seats up to six.

Our workstation range is industrial-desk construction at team scale. A single welded steel run with up to six oak tops, shared apron, integrated cable management, optional steel-mesh privacy panels between seats. Fourteen catalogued layouts; each is fully customisable by desk size, cable hole position, drawer arrangement and finish.

Industrial-desk questions, answered.

Are your industrial desks made in the UK?

Furniture is made to order. Discuss access, delivery and assembly arrangements with our team before ordering.

Can I order a custom-size industrial desk?

Every desk is made to order. Width, depth, drawer arrangement, oak colour and steel finish are all specified at the point of order. For sizes outside the standard 1200–2200 mm range — including very large dining tables and bespoke corner configurations — please get in touch with our team.

What's the lead time?

Four to six weeks from signed quote for desks in our standard charcoal raw steel finish, including delivery and installation. Powder-coated finishes (any RAL colour) add two to three weeks because the steel goes off-site for coating after fabrication.

How thick are the oak tops?

30 mm is standard. We can build 50 mm slab tops as an upgrade — significantly heavier, recommended for dining tables and large workstations. Both options are solid timber throughout — no veneer, no MDF core.

Do the desks come with cable management?

Every model has the option of one or more cable holes with rubber grommets, plus an under-desk cable tray to keep wiring off the floor. Corner desks have the option of a corner cable hole positioned at the L-bend. Workstations include a full cable raceway running the length of the shared apron.

What's the difference between the Remington and X Frame ranges?

Both are built the same way — solid oak, welded steel — but the chassis geometry differs. The Remington uses a simple square-section base, the most pared-back shape we make. The X Frame uses a diagonally-braced base, drawn originally for an architect's studio: more architectural in appearance, more rigid along the long axis, slightly heavier.

Can the steel be powder-coated in a colour to match my room?

Yes — any RAL Classic colour. There's a £360 surcharge per desk and an additional two to three week lead time, as the fabricated steel goes off-site for coating before final finishing. The desks ship with the same brass identification plate and finished oak top regardless of steel colour.

What's the guarantee?
