We have been making oak-and-steel furniture by hand in Derby since 2013. This is how we do it.
Our family-run business began in Derbyshire in 2013. We make oak-and-steel furniture to order for homes and workplaces.
The business began when Joshua was looking for a desk for his own work. Unable to find the piece he wanted, he took a welding course and began developing his own furniture designs.
Today the range includes individual pieces and furniture for shared workplaces. Oak, steel and a choice of finishes give each design its character.
Start with a design from the collection or share your own brief. Tell us your dimensions, finish preferences and practical requirements so we can prepare a quotation.
Russell Oak & Steel is built around a few unfashionable convictions. They make us slower than we could be. They are what we're here for.

Solid American white oak, solid mild steel, mechanical joinery. If something breaks — and in thirteen years we're aware of two pieces that have — we'll repair it, at our cost, in our workshop, regardless of the original owner.

Please contact our team for product-specific information about materials, care and aftercare. Your statutory rights are unaffected.
Finishes are hardwax oil in four shades — light, medium, dark and ebony — applied in three coats. Every piece can be re-oiled at home; we will send you the right oil.
Steel is cut from British mild-steel stock, welded on a fixture jig to our drawing, then linished and dressed by hand to remove the weld bead. The finished frame is sand-blasted and powder-coated to your choice of RAL number, or left in its natural charcoal grey.
Coatings are baked at 200°C and rated for indoor and outdoor use. Threaded inserts are stainless. Feet are adjustable to 8mm to allow for any wonkiness in the room beneath the piece.
